In Darkness, the Essentials . . .
What blinds these eyes,
Is sight and geometry.
Angles and curves
Divert the mind
Away from canvasses
Of reality.
Yet in darkness
Every edge and groove
Becomes essential…
Fingertouch reveals
The loom’s deep work –
Interleaved strands of
Spirit and spit, fire and hope.
Sound and smell embroiled
Like DNA helixes.
Sight again is blinded
From looking in your eyes,
Seeing my eternal mystery,
Knowing you’ve tasted
The apple of my soul.
We are old, you and I.
We both know the loneliness
Of half-baked truths
Weighs down the only gaze
That ever mattered.
We’ll always have the darkness
Where we met, and
Seek each other still
With arms open wide
And hearts full of song.
- Daniel 2005
This poem was written by a man whose acquaintence I had the pleasure of making last night online. He had seen my website and was inspired to write a poem, which turned into the above. I inadvertantly became his muse it seems =) I am really proud of what he has written. I know that good poetic/lyrical writing isn't simple, and his words really touched me, so I wanted to share them with you all. This is only the second poem I've ever had written for me (thank you Sherman for the first!). Thank you Daniel for this gift.
